Key Messages
- Elevated fire danger is likely the next several afternoons due to low relative humidity.
- Mostly clear and dry conditions will persist for the next 7 days.
Short Term
(This afternoon through Wednesday) Issued at 214 PM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026
High pressure over the southeast is expected to spin in place through the rest of the work week. No sign of precipitation in any of the models isn't expected to do us any favors when it comes to the drought monitor going forwards. We get some moisture return spreading through the CWA tomorrow, though a few of the fire zones could briefly see RH values fall below 30%.
Temperatures during the daytime will climb into the mid 70s across most of the CWA with winds out of the north with overnight lows in the mid to low 40s.
Long Term
(Thursday morning through next Monday) Issued at 214 PM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026
Guidance remains in good agreement showing high pressure dominating the weather pattern and keeping things dry through day 7. North and Central GA will remain dry in this setup, as primarily northerly flow keeps PWATs below 0.5" and rain chances near zero. High temperatures expected to remain mainly in the 70s through the period with the warmest day Thu with highs getting to near 80 deg across central portions of the state. The models do show the overall flow switching from the NW to E/NE Friday allowing a little bit of moisture return across south and central GA Sat through Mon. Right now the most we should see from this is some increased cloud cover but that should be about it.
Aviation
(18Z TAFS) Issued at 131 PM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026
VFR through the TAF forecast with light north winds at 5kts or less. A few high clouds are possible before winds become light and variable overnight.
//ATL Confidence...18Z Update...
High on all elements.
