Forecasters' discussion

From the National Weather Service office in BGM, issued 3 hrs ago

What Has Changed

Only changes were to temperatures and dew points, with temperatures bumped up for the afternoons, and brought down dew points to lower the afternoon RH.

Key Messages

1) High pressure will remain over the northeast for the next week with dry conditions, warm afternoon temps, and cool mornings.

Discussion

KEY MESSAGE 1...

Not much to talk about weather wise over the next week as the northeast remains predominantly under an large upper level ridge. A noreaster off of the coast today into early Friday is going to try and take on some tropical characteristics which in turn will help strengthen the ridge around the edges of the low where we are. Temperatures the next couple afternoons were bumped up a few degrees with afternoon dew points lowered by about 5 to 10 degrees from models to help lower the RH. With the recent freeze, evapotranspiration has largely ended so its been easy the last few days for dew points to get well below forecast. Breezy north to northeast winds with the seasonably warm, dry afternoons with the leaves on the ground, fire spread will be elevated through the weekend and likely into early next week as we continue to dry out.

The only semi interesting thing this week is a trough that moves into New England Friday as the low off the coast departs. With no moisture in place, precipitation is not expected but temperatures will cool slightly for Friday and Saturday before warming up again Sunday into next week.

Aviation

Mostly VFR conditions are expected with high pressure in control. However, fog chances tonight at ELM are higher than previous night's and IFR fog is now looking more likely there during the early morning hours on Wednesday. If fog does develop, expect restrictions until 13 to 14Z and then VFR conditions will prevail thereafter.

Outlook...

Wednesday afternoon through Sunday...Mainly VFR. Morning fog at KELM possible each morning.
