On Orwell’s Trail: Is the EU Eliminating Digital Privacy?
9+ min ago (267+ words) It is Ursula von der Leyen's personal flagship project: the surveillance of private chats. All signs suggest that as early as Wednesday, the EU will make a renewed attempt to establish a dedicated spying authority. Wednesday could mark a turning point in the history of the European Union. As MCC Brussels and MEP Martin Sonneborn warned on Monday, a decisive vote on the EU's proposed "chat control" is scheduled for November 26. Both the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers are expected to discuss newly formulated proposals to create an EU agency that would force messaging services like WhatsApp or Signal to scan messages before they are sent and report possible child-pornographic content. They won't say it outright -- but everyone understands the real purpose: political dragnet surveillance. Brussels is mobilizing heaven and earth to suppress opposition voices and dismantle their…...

"The situation in Burma has improved enough that it is safe for Burmese citizens to return home," she said in a statement. The military under Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing seized power from democratically-elected Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021 and is seeking to add a sheen of international legitimacy to its government with the upcoming elections. But with Suu Kyi in prison and her party banned, most outside observers have denounced the elections as a sham. US Ends Temporary Protected Status for Nationals of Burma
3+ hour, 21+ min ago (318+ words) The change gives about 3,000 Burmese nationals until Jan. 26, 2026, to return. After conferring with other government agencies, Noem determined that conditions in the country no longer meet the protected status requirements. Her decision was based on a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services review of the conditions in Burma, and after consultation with the State Department, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Noem also determined that allowing Burmese citizens to stay temporarily in the United States was contrary to the national interest, DHS stated. They were encouraged to use the CBP Home app to report their departure....

Rand Paul'said in September, "throughout government, the censorship apparatus that Biden had put in place is gone." However, if you look to Germany, the strongest economic power in the European Union, it's easy to see where America was going. It has about 330 organizations working with federal and state levels of government to suppress speech and about 425 grants " mostly from the government " that fund this work, according to'research from liber-net, a free speech group that tracks censorship. The most high-profile cases of German censorship, at least in America, have been raids of people who authorities determined had engaged in "digital violence" for offenses that include insulting someone. These raids were the subject of a high-Zprofile60 Minutes" segment'last February....

8+ hour, 42+ min ago (488+ words) Authored by Sonia Elijah via The Brownstone Institute, "Big Brother is watching you." These chilling words from George Orwell's dystopian masterpiece,1984, no longer read as fiction but are becoming a bleak reality in the UK and Canada'where digital dystopian measures are unravelling the fabric of freedom in two of the West's oldest democracies. Under the guise of safety and innovation, the UK and Canada are deploying invasive tools that undermine privacy, stifle free expression, and foster a culture of self-censorship.
