Community members voice opinions at FCPS Board meeting

4+ min ago (465+ words) LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Community members flooded the Fayette County School Board's monthly action meeting Monday night, voicing their concerns during public comment. Protesters gathered outside the Fayette County Public Schools administration building Monday evening ahead of the school board's meeting. The group chanted "save the stables" and called on the district to preserve its alternative school program at the Kentucky Horse Park. The district's new facility assessment committee could recommend the board cut the program to save money. "Rather than cutting back on their own expenditures for themselves, like extensive travel, they're now trying to cut from the most underprivileged in our communities," said Laura Webb, who lives in Lexington. The committee has not made a recommendation on the stables program yet, and the board would have to hold a vote before any recommendations could be acted upon. Kentucky United…...

PM's office clarifies Luxon's suggestion he isn't concerned for National MPs who could lose seats

10+ min ago (1109+ words) The Prime Minister's Office is clarifying remarks by Christopher Luxon that suggested he held no concern for National MPs who would lose their place in Parliament based on current polling. In a statement to the Herald, a spokesman said: "The PM was answering a hypothetical question." "He is confident all National MPs will be returned at the next election. Our plan to fix the basics and build the future is working and we're confident of getting a strong result in 2026." Earlier on Tuesday, Luxon was questioned by a reporter at a press conference whether he held any concerns for MPs who, based on current polling, would lose their jobs if an election was held today. It was put to him at the stand-up: "You don't hold any concerns for those MPs who, on the current polling numbers if an election…...

Wilmington Police Department seeking grant to give every officer a body camera

12+ min ago (491+ words) WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) is seeking roughly $340,000 in federal grant funding to purchase new body cameras. City council passed a resolution unanimously at their Nov. 5 meeting, authorizing City Manager Becky Hawke to apply for the grant. The grant would require the city to commit about $170,000 total in matching funds over a three-year period. Roughly $57,000 of that match will be required in the 2026 fiscal year, and can be covered within the city's current budget, according to the resolution. If approved, every WPD officer would have their own Axon body camera. Currently, only officers who typically work in the field do, though others who don't have cameras do fill in on certain assignments in the field where there's a need, according to the department. Lt. Greg Willett said WPD uses the camera footage frequently, as evidence in court cases…...

Author Amish Tripathi On Ayodhya Dhwaja Rohan: 'We Have Modernized, But Not Westernized"

14+ min ago (653+ words) Author Amish Tripathi discusses the significance of the Dhwaja Rohan ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram Temple, which he views as a cultural revival for India. Tripathi analyses the symbolism of the temple's flag, which revives elements from the Valmiki Ramayana, and contrasts India's path of modernizing without westernizing with that of other nations like Turkey and China. According to Amish Tripathi, the approach to building the temple is symbolic of India's journey: 'How do you find a mix of both where you can modernize but not westernize? That's exactly what India is doing. This temple is symbolic of that'. The discussion also covers the inclusivity of Ram Rajya and the importance of welcoming people of all faiths to the temple. MP lashed out at Jews in front of Auschwitz

15+ min ago (287+ words) A political storm erupted in Poland after a parliament member known for his antisemitic views, Grzegorz Braun, delivered an inflammatory speech outside the gates of the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp over the weekend. Braun attacked Jews, claiming they sought "special treatment" in Poland, and accused the police of favoring them. He declared, "Poland is for Poles", and added that other peoples, including Jews, "have their own states." He mocked government efforts to strengthen Jewish culture in the country, comparing it to "inviting a dangerous neighbor to live next door." Braun also claimed that the site of the former Nazi extermination camp is "effectively extraterritorial", and threatened that if his party came to power it would dismantle the International Auschwitz Council. The remarks came at a sensitive time, while the Polish government is advancing a national plan to combat antisemitism and strengthen…...

Soldier’s ‘Religious Ego’ Cannot Override Discipline and Cohesion in the Armed Forces: Supreme Court

17+ min ago (233+ words) Home " Soldier's "Religious Ego' Cannot Override Discipline and Cohesion in the Armed Forces: Supreme Court Representing Kamalesan, senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan argued that the petitioner's monotheistic faith prohibited entering such spaces and that he feared being compelled to participate in rituals contradicting his beliefs. The bench found the explanation inadequate and inconsistent, noting that the officer's stance insulted the sentiments of the very soldiers he was expected to lead. "You are a troop leader commanding Sikh, Jat, and Rajput soldiers. This is how you respect their beliefs?" the bench questioned, adding that his tone and behaviour were disrespectful. The court further held that Article 25 of the Constitution protects only essential religious practices'a condition not met in this case, particularly since the officer disregarded his pastor's guidance. "Your personal interpretation of your religion cannot supersede discipline," the bench observed. When the…...
