Near Term
(Rest of Today and Tonight) Issued at 935 AM CDT Sat Oct 24 2026
A large surface high pressure system centered over New England has an influence throughout the southeast and TN Valley. Some wedging of cooler and drier air was occurring to the lee of the Appalachians which will keep temperatures a bit cooler today even in the TN Valley. Highs will be held in the upper 60s atop the Cumberland Plateau as a result, with lower 70s in valley areas east of I-65. Further west, highs will reach the middle 70s. A ridge valley split will occur tonight with valley lows mainly in the lower 40s, with lower 50s above the inversion atop the higher elevations. We will likely have to lower dew points from the NBM as the trend has dictated as of late.
Short Term
(Sunday through Monday night) Issued at 935 AM CDT Sat Oct 24 2026
The highly amplified 5h ridge over the lower MO valleys through the Sabine River valley will shift slowly east through Monday. Shortwaves will dampen down the ridge across the MO into the OH valley. Surface pressures will gradually lower across the southeast U.S. as the high weakens and temperatures warm a few degrees. A near persistence temperature forecast expects highs in the lower to middle 70s with a ridge valley split maintaining with the nocturnal inversion settling in each night. Lows should be in the lower 40s valleys/upper 40s to lower 50s higher elevations.
Long Term
(Tuesday through Friday) Issued at 1007 PM CDT Fri Oct 23 2026
The persistent ridge of high pressure across the region will still be intact early in the week. By mid week a series of mid to upper level disturbances move through the Northern Plains and Midwest, disturbing the ridge. The ridge will flatten and weaken Wednesday into Thursday, but seems to hold up enough to keep the sfc low and associated cold front north of the region. This would keep any rainfall chances out of the long term forecast. Will continue with the dry forecast through the week with a bump in cloud cover Tuesday night into Wednesday as a shortwave slides through. Otherwise, look for high temps to remain in the 70s through the week with the warmest days occurring on Thursday and Friday in the upper 70s. Overnight lows will generally be in the upper 40s with some locations reaching the lower 50s.
