Discussion
(This evening through Saturday) Issued at 408 PM CDT SUN OCT 25 2026
This afternoon a large high pressure ridge extends across Quebec and New England, south into the Deep South, and westward into Texas. In the upper levels, northerly flow continues across Central Alabama with an upper ridge centered over the Mid and Lower Mississippi River Valleys with one low to the west over Utah and Arizona and a second low just off the Atlantic Coast. Dry conditions will persist through Friday with warm days and cool nights. A surface low is present across the far northern portions of Eastern Canada today with an associated front extending out to the southwest of it across the Great Lakes and into Kansas. Upper ridging will traverse out of Central Conus to the Southeast US Monday into Tuesday. We will remain initially in an overall rain free pattern with little available moisture for rain, but we will likely see some fair weather clouds for Monday through Wednesday with some minor perturbations in the upper flow. However, the lower levels will remain relatively dry for the first half of the week with no major frontal system set to move through the area through the forecast. Temperatures will remain fairly similar through Wednesday with lows in the 40s to the lower 50s and highs generally in the 70s across Central Alabama. Toward the end of the week, our low level flow begins to turn more east-southeast. This will allow for a little moderating of our airmass with more 50s and maybe even a few 60s and some lower 80s mingling in with the respective lows and highs by Thursday into next weekend. Low rain chances occur by next weekend as overall moisture increases.

Aviation
(18Z TAFS) Issued at 147 PM CDT SUN OCT 25 2026
VFR TAFs are expected through the 24 hour forecast period with surface high pressure in place across much of the Eastern CONUS. Northeast to east winds this afternoon at 6 to 12 kts with a few higher gusts will become light/variable to calm for most after 00Z. Winds may stay up at AUO overnight, but they should lose the gusts.
Note: Fall seasonal issuance of the KASN Talladega TAF began on 10/18 00Z and will continue through 10/28 18Z.

Fire Weather
High pressure will allow us to maintain rain-free conditions through Friday. Daytime MinRH values are forecast to be in the 25 to 45 percent range through Wednesday, with minimum values increasing toward the end of the week. 20 foot winds will be up slightly this afternoon, generally in the 5-8 knot range with some higher gusts. Given the MinRH values and drying fuels, fire weather concerns will remain medium through the first half of the week.
