Key Messages

Issued at 203 PM CDT MON OCT 26 2026

- Seasonable Conditions: Fair weather is expected through Friday.

- Fire Weather: There is a medium fire weather risk through this week due to dry fuels, limited moisture, and slightly increased winds.

Discussion

(This afternoon through Sunday) Issued at 203 PM CDT MON OCT 26 2026

This afternoon a large high pressure ridge extends from New England, into the Deep South, and westward into Texas. In the upper levels, a ridge is centered over the Deep South with large scale troughing over the Western US and a second low over the Caribbean/troughing just off the Atlantic Coast. Dry conditions will persist through Friday with warm days and cool nights. A surface front is stretched across New York to Illinois to Nebraska today with a dry line extending southwestward into New Mexico. Upper ridging will remain across the Southeast US into Tuesday before shifting eastward on Wednesday. We will remain initially in an overall rain free pattern with limited available moisture for rain, but high cirrus will likely continue at times through Wednesday with some minor perturbations in the upper flow. However, the lower levels will still be too dry during the week for rain with no major frontal system set to move through the area through the forecast. Temperatures will remain fairly similar through mid week with lows in the 40s to the lower 50s and highs generally in the 70s across Central Alabama. Toward the end of the week, our low level flow begins to turn more east-southeast. This will allow for some moderating of our airmass with 50s and a few 60s and some lower 80s mingling in with the respective lows and highs by Thursday into this weekend. Rain chances return by Saturday as overall moisture increases.

Aviation

(18Z TAFS) Issued at 112 PM CDT MON OCT 26 2026

VFR TAFs are expected through the 24 hour forecast period for most with surface high pressure in place across much of Southeast CONUS. The exception will be that we could see some MVFR patchy ground fog at KASN again tonight in the late night hours and toward sunrise. Otherwise, east-northeast winds 4-9kts are expected with mixing during the day with light/variable to near calm winds overnight.

Note: Fall seasonal issuance of the KASN Talladega TAF began on 10/18 00Z and will continue through 10/28 18Z.

Fire Weather

High pressure will allow us to maintain rain-free conditions through Friday. Daytime MinRH values are forecast to be in the 25 to 45 percent range through Wednesday, with minimum values increasing toward the end of the week. Given the MinRH values and drying fuels, fire weather concerns will remain medium through much of this week.
