Discussion
KEY MESSAGE 1...Mostly dry weather pattern continues, with small chances for rain Thursday night and late this weekend. Near record warmth Thursday.
A surface ridge will continue to affect our region this week as embedded high pressure center moves from northern ON toward northern New England, while the ridge aloft builds from the Upper Midwest to the eastern Great Lakes. Dry weather is expected as stabilizing subsidence accompanies the ridge.
Decent CAA and a sharp decrease in low level thicknesses will lead to near or just below normal conditions tomorrow, with highs mainly in the 50s. Thereafter, heights build Wednesday and Thursday with temperatures approaching near record levels. Highs on Wednesday will reach the mid to upper 60, and upper 60s to lower 70s Thursday ahead of the next frontal system.
A weak cold front should sweep eastward through our region Thursday night. Periodic rain showers are possible along and ahead of this front Thursday night due to moist isentropic ascent ahead of a shortwave trough axis aloft and low-level convergence/ascent along the front coinciding with sufficient low-level moisture. Well above normal conditions will continue behind this system into the weekend, with dry conditions returning until late Sunday.
Aviation
A cold front currently moving through Western/Central NY will bring some lower ceilings to the region the rest of the afternoon and through early tonight. MVFR conditions have developed across the North Country, and will spread to other area terminals at times this afternoon and evening, but conditions should predominately be VFR. Clouds will slowly scatter out overnight, but will rebuild tomorrow morning along the southern lakeshores as winds come around to the NE.
There may be sufficient cloud breaks and weak surface winds for localized MVFR or worse steam fog to develop early tomorrow morning across the inland river and lake valleys.
Outlook...
Tuesday Night through Wednesday...Dry weather and mainly VFR expected. Localized fog with MVFR or worse conditions will be possible across the inland river and lake valleys Wednesday morning.
Wednesday night through Saturday...Dry weather and mainly VFR expected. However, periodic rain showers with MVFR are possible Thursday night into Friday morning.
