Discussion

The Quad State remains on the eastern side of an omega block pattern as a very large high pressure area is centered in southern Quebec. Very slow progression of the ridge into the Quad State will keep dry condition may allow for modest warming for the weekend as 500mb heights tick higher. For the most part, fairly steady conditions are forecast, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s. Patchy, mostly shallow, fog has begun developing, mainly along river areas. At this time, observations suggest that visibility is likely to be lower than yesterday morning, but not so low and widespread enough to prompt SPS or Dense Fog Advisory issuances as model support for fog is quite limited. Early AM vsby reductions may show up again the next couple nights.
Early next week, a system tracks from the Front Range to the Great Lakes, but any trailing boundary is likely to be cut off from moisture and runs into the persistent high pressure still centered off to our northeast so dry conditions remain. With that opportunity likely lost, a more favorable period to finally receive some rainfall arrives at the end of the next week as the ridge shifts to our east and a trough digs into the mountain west. Unfortunately, after being dry the vast majority of October, we may finally get rain just in time for Halloween. Temperatures remain steady for next week with highs in the 70s and lows in the mid 40s to near 50.
