We're in the midst of a tranquil stretch of weather. Very little has changed since the last update. Skies are clear, and winds are calm. Sprawling high pressure at the surface remains in place over the eastern US and Canada. In the upper levels, a large ridge sits over the central CONUS.
The mid/upper level ridge is forecast to slowly build eastward over the Ohio Valley through the end of the weekend. The strong sfc high will build south through the weekend, becoming centered over the Northeast US. During the early to middle portion of next week, ridging will remain in place while gradually weakening with time. The upper level flow deamplifies, and multiple upper level disturbances will traverse portions of the western and north-central US. While we could see increasing high clouds at times, a dry low- level airmass will keep us dry through next Thursday.
In short, very pleasant Fall weather continues through the middle of next week. Afternoon highs in the low to mid 70s will be common, with early morning lows in the 40s. Our coolest, sheltered valleys in the Bluegrass and Lake Cumberland regions should see some mid to upper 30s once again early this morning and again Saturday morning. This may produce patchy frost in those areas.
Forecast confidence has increased slightly in our next chance of rain arriving over Halloween weekend. A wave of low pressure ejecting northeast out of the southern/central Plains could finally draw some moisture into the Ohio Valley. About 40-50% of LREF members bring us some measurable rainfall by Sunday, November 1st.
