Discussion
Issued at 157 AM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026
The forecast remains fairly steady through the workweek ahead with multiple waves of upper level ridging over the Quad State, slightly interrupted by a Tuesday impulse which has precipitation further northwest. Surface high pressure is dominant over the northeast, and later Mid-Atlantic, keeping winds light and weather conditions dry. Temperatures remain above normal with highs in the upper half of the 70s to near 80, and lows in the mid to upper 40s, rising some late week as flow becomes more southerly.
Over the weekend, ridging breaks down and the eastern high shifts out to sea, providing a chance of rain. A system tracking northeastward from Mexico into Texas provides weekend rainfall. Models differ as to whether this system provides rain Saturday or delays into Saturday night-Sunday. While PoPs only peak around 40-60% Saturday night, it generally should be considered that there will most likely be some precipitation over the weekend at some point, and future runs will help dial in the timing better. Strong troughing early next week out west should bring another system to the region early week, with the 6-10 day precipitation outlook leaning above normal for most of the country (but especially the Desert Southwest). The 6-10 day temperature outlook is strongest over the Ohio Valley. Highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s over the weekend would lend support to that, being around 10 degrees above normal.
