Forecasters' discussion
From the National Weather Service office in SGX, issued 6 hrs ago
Synopsis
Near to slightly above average temperatures through Monday, then gradually cooler for the middle to end of the week. Unsettled weather expected for the end of the week with increased winds and chance of precipitation. Tides will remain elevated through much of this week.
Discussion
FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE... SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES...
Visible satellite at 11 AM was showing clear skies across Southern California. Highs today are expected to be in the upper 70s to upper 80s for most locations, with spots in the mountains in the 50 to 60 degree range. The pressure gradient between San Diego and Tonopah, NV was still weakly offshore this morning. Onshore flow is expected to return Monday as an upper level low pressure system moves into the Pacific Northwest. Marine layer low clouds have a small chance of returning to some coastal locations Monday morning, with higher confidence for low clouds returning by Tuesday morning. Once marine layer low clouds and areas of fog return, they will be present each night and morning through the week.
High temperatures Monday will be similar to today's. High temperatures in coastal areas will be 5 to 10 degrees above average, with temperatures closer to average further inland. By Wednesday, forecast has widespread below average temperatures. Temperatures are forecast to remain below average through the remainder of the week.
Global ensembles continue to indicate unsettled weather for the end of the week into the first days of November. There remains a lot of uncertainty in the details, which will ultimately be dictated by how far south the upper level low off the coast of the Pacific Northwest tracks. Rain chances are in the forecast as early as Friday. In addition to precipitation, cooler, cloudier, and windier conditions are expected.
Aviation
251700Z...Most likely VFR conditions across the region through the period. 20% chance for very patchy low clouds based 500-1000 ft MSL over nearshore waters and along the coastline tonight. No impacts expected for coastal TAF sites at this time.
Marine
Winds gusts near 20 knots expected in the outer coastal waters Monday afternoon and evening. Otherwise, no hazardous marine conditions are expected through Thursday.
