Details

What: Large breaking waves of 2 to 4 feet above the normal high tide line.

Where: Southern Seward Peninsula Coast.

When: Until 4 AM AKDT Tuesday.

Impacts: For Nome and Golovin, water levels have peaked and will begin to gradually drop on Saturday. While water levels remain near their apex, in Nome, this can result in water approaching low-lying homes in Belmont Subdivision with standing water expected in the port area. For Golovin, water may inundate any beach property but the roads, buildings and residences shouldn't be impacted as the water remains below the berm. Even though water levels drop somewhat, they will remain normal through early next week. Localized beach erosion may occur.

Additional details: South to southwest winds will continue to gust up to 40 mph through the weekend. Strong winds continue into early next week.

What to do

Precautions should be taken to protect property.

Areas: Southern Seward Peninsula Coast
