Key Messages
Updated at 556 AM CDT Tue Oct 20 2026
- High temperatures warm into the 80s and low 90s this week.
- No rain through the majority of the forecast period. Low chances for rain return to areas near the Rio Grande and Edwards Plateau early next week.
Short Term
(Today through Wednesday) Issued at 126 AM CDT Tue Oct 20 2026
We should finally start to see warmer mornings starting with this morning as lows should stay in the mid 50s north of I-35 with upper 50s to near 60 along and south of the I-35 corridor. We warm up nicely during the day with highs about 5 to 10 degrees warmer than yesterday with low to mid 80s area wide with upper 80s possible along and south of the I-35 Corridor. Tonight we will continue our to see mid to upper 50s areawide as southeasterly return flow remains at the lower levels over our area. Thus we should see lows closer to average for this time of year. By Wednesday we should see slightly warmer highs as we continue to warm back up with highs in low 80s north with mid 80s to near 90 south as ridging continues to remain over the central and southern U.S.
Long Term
(Wednesday night through Monday) Issued at 126 AM CDT Tue Oct 20 2026
Wednesday night we continue our warm and dry pattern as broad ridging remains over South Central Texas and eventually becomes more amplified heading into the late week period. Each day will remain warm and above average for highs starting Thursday and continuing into the weekend with mid 80s through Friday. With mid to upper 80s over the first half of the weekend before leveling off into the low 80s for Sunday and through the rest of the extended period. Lows will also remain mild, in the mid to upper 50s through the entire forecast period. Additionally, we will see the return of more humid conditions then what we currently have with dewpoints back into the 50s and 60s.
Eventually, a trough is expected to move over the western U.S late in the period but the elongated upper ridge should limit impacts for most of our area associated with this feature as most long range models suggest the trough pushing north of our area. The exception being the Rio Grande and Southern Edwards Plateau regions where just enough of a disturbance could clip these areas late in the weekend. However, confidence continues to remain fairly low as pops are only in the 20% to 30% range for now. Stay tuned.
Aviation
(12Z TAFS) Issued at 556 AM CDT Tue Oct 20 2026
VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF cycle at most terminals. Expecting MVFR CIGs to develop at DRT around 14Z and persist through the remainder of the morning. CIGs will transation to VFR by the early afternoon hours (18-19Z). Generally light winds will persist through the period.
