What: Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

Where: Arecibo in Puerto Rico... Ciales in Puerto Rico... Florida in Puerto Rico... Northeastern Jayuya in Puerto Rico... Utuado in Puerto Rico...

When: Until 545 PM AST.

Impacts: Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Dangerous flows over low-water crossings. Overflowing poor drainage areas.

Additional details: - At 239 PM AST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected over the area. What to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas.

Additional details: - At 239 PM AST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. What: For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet. For the HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK, life-threatening rip current.

Where: For the HIGH SURF ADVISORY and HIGH RIP CURRENT, the most vulnerable areas are the exposed northwesterly and north- facing beaches.

When: For the High Surf Advisory from 2 AM to 6 PM AST tuesday. For the High Rip Current Risk from late tonight through Wednesday morning

Impacts: FOR THE HIGH SURF ADVISORY, High waves that can wash over jetties and sweep people and pets onto jagged rocks. Rough surf may also knock you down. Large breaking waves will result in localized beach/dune structure erosion and dangerous swimming conditions. FOR THE HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK, rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water, where it becomes difficult to return to safety.

What to do

A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing localized beach erosion and dangerous swimming conditions.

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and signs.

If you become caught in a rip current, yell for help. Remain calm, do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for help. If you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

At 321 PM AST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Hato Arriba, or near Moca, moving west-northwest at 10 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and possible funnel clouds.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include... Moca, Aguadilla, Aguada, Isabela, Las Marias, Anasco, Quebradillas, Aceitunas, Caban, Hato Arriba, Luyando, San Antonio, Rafael Hernandez, Mora and Espino.

What to do
