There’s Even More Unemployment Trouble For College Graduates

13+ min ago (395+ words) Unfortunately, the magic wand is sputtering. Layoffs have been growing heavy, and the ranks of the unemployed are filling with a large number of well-educated workers. If you consider all holders of post-secondary degrees, they comprise 41.3% of the unemployed. In October 2025, U.S.-based corporations announced 153,074 job cuts, according to outplacement company Challenger, Gray & Christmas. That was up 183% from the 54,064 job cuts in September. The October figure was up 175% from 55,597 the year before. "Through October, employers have announced 1,099,500 job cuts, an increase of 65% from the 664,839 announced in the first ten months of last year," they wrote. "It is up 44% from the 761,358 cuts announced in all of 2024. Year-to-date job cuts are at the highest level since 2020, when 2,304,755 cuts were announced through October." The firm tracked almost 450 individual job-cut plans last month. There were just under 400 in September. Through October, there were 1,099,500 job cuts....

Inside IBM’s Quest To Win The Quantum Computer Race

48+ min ago (807+ words) Half a century ago, a factory in Poughkeepsie, New York, cranked out computer hardware. The profits from mainframes financed pampered employees, scientific research and a dividend that made International Business Machines the most valuable company on the planet. Now, a diminished IBM gets most of its revenue from soft things: computer programs and business services. But it's at work on a new kind of machine that could return Poughkeepsie to its glory days. This is where it will assemble quantum computers, the magical devices designed to tackle mathematical challenges that would overwhelm an ordinary computer. If quantum delivers on its promises, engineers will use it to make giant strides in the design of drugs, vaccines, batteries and chemicals. Last year Boston Consulting Group predicted that come 2040, quantum hardware and software providers will be taking in $90 billion to $170 billion of annual…...

Masayoshi Son’s Fortune Drops Nearly $5 Billion As Softbank Shares Slide

54+ min ago (175+ words) SoftBank Group's shares tumbled sharply on Tuesday, wiping nearly $5 billion from its founder and CEO Masayoshi Son's fortune, as the enthusiasm over Google's new Gemini 3 artificial intelligence model raised concerns around the investment giant's big bet on ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. SoftBank shares slumped nearly 11% on Tuesday before recovering slightly to "15,390 ($98.5), down 9.95% from its previous close. Tuesday's slump follows a 10.9% drop in the tech investment giant's shares on Friday, as the Tokyo Stock Exchange reopened after a long weekend in Japan. The stock drop comes amid concerns about growing competition facing OpenAI, the company in which Softbank's Vision Fund has made a massive bet. Concerns about the ChatGPT maker's dominance in the AI market have emerged after Google released its new Gemini 3 model, which received glowing reviews. Earlier this month, the investment giant announced it had sold its entire 32.1 million holding of…...

Peace At Any Price In Ukraine Would Be Catastrophic For The Free World

1+ hour, 18+ min ago (217+ words) A peace-at-any-price deal in Ukraine would be a catastrophe for us and the rest of the Free World. President Trump deserves praise for doggedly pursuing peace in all parts of the world, with some stunning successes. However, the biggest, most important and unresolved conflict is the bloody war in Ukraine. The danger is in pushing a plan that would lead to Russia's ultimate subjugation of Ukraine. This would have horrific consequences not only in Europe but also in Asia and elsewhere. Beijing will feel free to pursue its ongoing efforts to establish de facto control of the South China Sea, a critical waterway for international commerce, and to institute a modern version of the old tribute system when other states kowtowed to China. Countries will increasingly feel the need to bow to Beijing's wishes, since they couldn't count on the…...

The Messi 2.0 Era At Inter Miami May Have Already Started

2+ hour, 18+ min ago (364+ words) For those who have wondered what the next era of Inter Miami looks like, when Lionel Messi returns on a three-year contract extension, but veteran teammatezs Jordi Alba, Segio Busquets and potentially Luis Suarez move on to retirement, the last two weeks may have provided a frightening preview for MLS foes. The Herons" 50% and 51% possession numbers in those games were two of their five lowest figures against MLS opposition all season long. Meanwhile, Messi"s 2.1 expected primary assists were also the most he has registered in any MLS regular season or playoff match since his arrival in 2023. After spending much of this first season trying to get MLS to bend to the ball-dominant preferences of the core group of Messi and his former FC Barcelona veteran teammates, these trends suggest Messi"s future Miami sides will bear more resemblance to…...

FC Barcelona Versus Chelsea Champions League Line Up

2+ hour, 22+ min ago (361+ words) FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is expected to make bold changes to his starting line up when the Catalans take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League on Tuesday. Thanks to its eternal rival drawing 2-2 at Elche, Barca managed to cut the deficit to just one point at the La Liga summit, and badly need to make up ground in the Champions League league phase where Flick's men languish outside the spots which guarantee automatic qualification for the knockout phase without the need to contest a playoff. Despite the rousing win before 45,000 Culers in the half-finished, part-renovated cathedral of European soccer, Flick will tinker with his line up to take on the Club World Cup winner on its London patch. Once more, Joan Garcia starts in goal after making a successful return from injury and keeping a…...

GOP Sen. Justice Agrees To Pay $5.16 million To Settle Federal Tax Suit

3+ hour, 5+ min ago (200+ words) Senator Jim Justice, R-W.Va., and his wife agreed to pay more than $5 million to settle a federal complaint brought against them by the Justice Department on behalf of the Internal Revenue Service, alleging they "neglected" notices demanding payment of alleged unpaid federal income taxes and penalties on their 2009 earnings. A civil complaint against the GOP senator and his wife, Cathy Justice, was filed on Monday, seeking $5.16 million in outstanding tax liabilities from the 2009 tax year. The complaint said Justice and his wife were sent a "notice of the tax assessments," with a "demand for payment," but the defendants "neglected or refused to make full payment." Shortly after the filing, the senator and his wife entered a joint motion seeking court approval of a consent judgment under which they agreed to pay the $5.16 million they owed as of August 4, 2025, "plus…...

Powerball Jackpot Hits $681 Million—Here’s What The Winner Could Take Home

6+ hour, 18+ min ago (248+ words) The Powerball jackpot climbed to $681 million'the third biggest lottery prize of 2025 so far'after no tickets matched all six numbers drawn on Monday night, although the eventual winner will take home a much smaller payout after taxes and deductions. The six numbers drawn on Monday night were 8, 16, 26, 30, 58 and Red Powerball 14. If a winner emerges in the next draw, they can choose between taking the $681 million prize split over 30 annual installments or a one-time cash payment of $315.7 million'the preferred choice for most winners. If the lump-sum option is chosen, the winnings will first drop to around $240 million after a mandatory federal withholding of 24% is applied. The winner would likely face a federal marginal rate as high as 37%, depending on their taxable income, further reducing the winnings to around $199 million. If the installment route is picked, the winner's annual payments of $22.7 million would…...
